"Equipping United Methodist Laity for Ministry"

The mission of Lay Speaking Ministries is:
...to equip God's people to do His work and build up the church, the body of Christ.
 Ephesians 4:11-12

Conferences of the Southeastern Jurisdiction Lay Speaking Ministries provides training for laity of the United Methodist Church to equip them to be leaders in mission and ministry in the local church and community.  Each of us is gifted by the Holy Spirit to be a servant in God's kingdom.  Lay Speaking Ministries helps us discover our gift or gifts through educational opportunities that will enhance our gifts and build our skills to enable us to be effective leaders in our church.  Through Lay Speaking Ministries, we can become better disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Conference directors, district directors, and lay speakers from 10 Southeastern Jurisdiction conferences attended the annual gathering for Lay Speaking Ministries at historic First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama July 15-17.  The attendees experienced inspired worship and great fellowship.  Their time was also filled with excellent training.  Conference and district directors were given tools to assist them in the administration and leadership of the Lay Speaking Ministries programs.  Training was also offered to help Lay Speaking Ministries course instructors become more effective in their teaching skills.  Lay Speakers were also able to choose from the Basic Course, Lay Speakers Lead in Prayer, and the advanced preaching course, From Your Heart to Theirs.  Churches from across the jurisdiction were given the opportunity to partner in prayer with gulf coast area churches hard hit by the oil leak.
